Onsens

There are a huge number of onsens (both indoor and outdoor) to choose from. Here are a few interesting ones that can be reached in a day trip from Nagoya. If you go at a busy time (holiday season or weekend) you may need to book in advance.

Hakone

This popular onsen town is next to Mt Fuji. One of the more unusual onsen resorts in Hakone is Yunessun (entry 3500yen) which is basically the Disneyland of onsens. Here, men and women wear swimwear (unliked in normal onsens) and you can walk around the complex and try a host of unusual baths, including coffee (pictured), green tea, red wine, salt water from the dead sea, and many other options. There is also a footbath where small fish will bite your old skin away, waterslides, jacuzzis, saunas and a couple of swimming pools. Great fun!  It takes about 150 minutes to reach Hakone Yumoto station from Nagoya.
